Scholarship Requirements
ELIGIBILITY:
1.) Must have at least 1 year of band experience on FLUTE
2.) Must be enrolled in a band program. If home-schooled, must be involved in some type of community ensemble. (North Port Community Concert Band, Charlotte Community Concert Band, Sarasota Youth Orchestra, etc.)
3.) Must complete a short essay describing why you want to take flute lessons and why you deserve this scholarship.
4.) Student and Parent(s) / Guardian(s) must both be available to come to a short audition and interview.
5.) Must be a dedicated, industrious and hardworking individual
REQUIRED ESSAY:
Write short essay that explains why you want to take flute lessons and why you deserve this scholarship.

7th and 8th Grade applicants must write at least 100 words.

High School applicants must write at least 250 words.

All essays may be 750 words maximum.

AUDITION AND INTERVIEW:
SCALE AUDITION:
7th and 8th Grade:
-
Must perform G, C, F, Bb, Eb, Ab, and Db major scales at least 1 octave memorized in the All-State pattern.

Two Octave chromatic scale starting from low F to high F memorized in the All-State pattern.
High School:
-
Must perform all 12 major scales at least 1 octave memorized in the All-State pattern.

Chromatic scale from low C to high G memorized in the All-State pattern.
INTERVIEW:
A short interview will take place after the scale audition to discuss the commitment of taking private lessons while receiving the scholarship with the student and parent/guardian.
Tips:

Performing your scales 2 octaves or more will increase your chances of winning the scholarship

Performing your full chromatic scale will increase your chances of winning the scholarship (low C to high C 8 ledger lines above the staff)

If you don't play your scales perfectly, don't worry! I am looking for good work ethic and determination, not natural talent! Show me your work ethic in your essay and in your interview. I can teach you scales in lessons! :)
